Race and ethnicity

Iowa school districts each year report information about the students they enroll to the Iowa Department of Education. This includes information on each student's race and/or ethnicity. On balance, Iowa schools have become much more racially diverse in recent decades. Here you can find data on state public-school enrollment by race and ethnicity looking back to the 2000-01 school year, and data at the school-district level for the most recent year it is available.
